Santa Fe

Santa Fe

Description:
A medium size, thin, narrow, auriculate point with expanding auricules and a concave base. Hafting area is not well defined and can be lightly ground although many examples are not ground. Blade edges are not serrated as in Tallahassee which is the serrated form of the two types. Note: This type along with the Tallahassee point have been confused with a much earlier Dalton type found in Northern Florida into Southern Alabama, Georgia and South Carolina. Compared to the Dalton type, the Santa Fe and the Tallahassee points are narrower and much thinner and have less patination. The Dalton is a heavier point being thicker and wider with heavy grinding around the entire basal area. The blade edge serrations are also formed differently on Dalton points.
