Cruciform I
- Time Period : 8000-2300 B.P.
- Location : W. Texas, Sou. New Mexico, and Sou. Arizona.
- Shape : Lanceolate
Description:
Occurs in two forms. Type one is a medium sized, four pronged object in a pyramidal form on opposing faces. It is hand tooled from hardstone or flaked from obsidian and then ground on both faces and around the edges. Careful attention was given to the quality of the finished form. A pair of these objects were found on both sides of the skull in an excavated grave in Arizona. It is believed that these were used as ear ornaments. These objects were named due to their resemblance to cruciforms.
