Description:
A medium to large size, auriculate, fluted, lanceolate point with convex sides and a concave base that is ground. Most examples are fluted on both sides about 1/3 the way up from the base. The flaking can be random to parallel. Clovis is the earliest point type in the hemisphere. There is no pre-Clovis evidence here in the U.S.(no crude forms that pre-date Clovis). The origin of Clovis is unknown. It may have developed from earlier forms brought here from the old world. Clovis-like fluted points have been reported found in China dating to 11-12,000 B.P. Clovis has also been found in Alaska and southern Chile in South America.
