Description:
A medium to large size, auriculate, fluted, lanceolate point with convex sides and a concave base that is ground. Most examples are fluted on both sides about 1/3 the way up from the base. The flaking can be random to parallel. Clovis is the earliest point type in the hemisphere. The origin of Clovis is unknown. It may have developed from earlier forms brought here from the Old World. The first Clovis find associated with Mastodon was in 1979 at Mastodon State Park, Jefferson Co., MO. in the Kimmswick bone bed carbon dated to 11,500 B.P. or approx. 14,000 actual years.
